OUR STORY
In the 1960s and into the 70’s Laurel Canyon gave birth to a new, iconic, rock sound with Buffalo Springfield, Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Byrds, Jim Morrison, and the Mamas and the Papas. Pushing the boundaries of rock and roll, these folk-infused ballads became the soundtrack of an era and solidified Los Angeles as the epicenter of Rock and Roll. A new sound needed a new look, and as it always has, along with the music came the fashion: A true American and mostly West Coast, anti-capitalist way of dressing became the second skin of a young generation. With an emphasis on utility and a disdain for anything mainstream, slim suits and mini skirts of the 60s were replaced with t-shirts, peasant skirts, blue jeans and of course, the Cowboy Boot.
With origins in 1800’s Wild West ranching and cattle, the traditional Cowboy Boot evolved into its current silhouette and became a statement of not only the anti-establishmentarianism of the 60’s and 70’s but also one of rebellion, proclaiming the importance of pedigree in clothing, the importance of our story, and being a part of something bigger than current trends.
Having come from a family embedded in California western wear, Scott opened Boot Star in 2002 on the Sunset Strip, at the base of Laurel Canyon, within steps of the very streets, alleys and front porches which still echo the undeniable melodies of the Canyon Sound. Pulling inspiration from The West as well as Los Angeles Rock, Boot Star carries on the tradition of outfitting those that want to stand out and while finding commonality amongst those that truly believe everything can be better.
Rock and Roll is in our DNA, Western Wear in our blood, and in our heart; a commitment to quality, legacy and the responsibility of being a chapter in a much greater story.
